The Yamaha RX-V377 AV receiver replaces last years RX-V375 range. There's no major changes here, but a good refresh from last years model brings some tweaks to sound. You may still find a bargain in the RX-V375 if you can get your hands on one, but if not then try this cracking budget receiver.

Yamaha go for the essentials here. It's a competent and capable 5.1 receiver but don't expect much more. There is however Ultra HD/4K passthrough and you can play your iPhone or iPod through the USB port on the front. There's no internet on this receiver so you won't be able to stream music or use the control app, but this really isn't an issue if you don't need these features. If you do need to stream music wirelessly there is however a Bluetooth adaptor called the YBA-11 to let you do this.

Set up is however still simple thanks to Yamaha's own YPAO system. Just plug the set up microphone (included) into this unit and away you go - it's nice and easy and will get the most out of your speakers.

Connection is straightforward too - there are four HDMI inputs in total and a single HDMI output which supports ARC - meaning you can send TV sound back to your AV receiver via the HDMI output (if your TV also supports ARC!). All in all good for the job at hand - a 5 channel AV receiver.

We think this is perfect for getting great sound at a budget price and by focussing on what is important it delivers exactly what it should do. A great little receiver!
