There are very few products that we label as 'the best' but the Yamaha RX-A3030 has earned that. Sure, there are other formidable AV receivers out there and this shouldn't be your one-stop shop for an AV receiver, but if you want to save yourself a lot of leg work to end up back here, or you just want to save yourself the hassle and just go for it, then we really do recommend this as the best on the market.

Of course it isn't just us who strongly recommend this receiver. What Hi-Fi awarded it the Best home cinema amplifier £1500+ in their 2013 Awards. You can read their full review by clicking here. It's also picked up several user awards and high recommendations from across the board. There's competition out there for sure - both Denon and Onkyo have receivers with siimlar strengths, and even Pioneer produce a receiver that gives the Yamaha a run for its money on stereo audio - but all of them find it hard to topple this mighty receiver.

So is there anything actually wrong with this receiver? Well not really - there's a couple of minor niggles. The audio can sometimes be a little vibrant and loses the natural feel that you may find on other receivers. This slight tonality bias towards excitement does make the receiver more exciting sounding but in our view moves it a little away from where it should be. However, this is certainly a taste issue and we are being highly critical.

Equally. stereo music isn't as well presented as on a stereo amplifier and it lacks a little musicality. However, this is a lament of all AV receivers so again is being highly critical. Our final small niggle? You need to add the YWA-10 network adaptor to wirelessly connect to your network. This is of course a very minor thing indeed!

So - that's our negativity out of the way - whats good? Simply put movie sound. This is really what the receiver is for, and you'll be impressed. Very impressed! Try the drum scene from House of the Flying Dagger and you will be immersed. Detail is extraordinary and the subtle sounds of each bean hitting those drums gets your ears going. Try something louder - the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan - and you'll be shocked into submission as each bullet whizzes around your head and the thump of the artillery shocks you.

The eagerness of the Yamaha to please does sneak in occasionally but in fairness it brighten as opposed to limit the sound. Ultimately we ended up feeling we were in the best cinema in the world - without leaving our home.

We truly think you'll love this receiver. Partner it with a high end speaker system - we loved B&W with it - and you'll be in heaven.
