There's a lot to like about the Denon AVR-X3000. It's where serious AV starts, and has 7 channels of amplification to give you either a full 7.1 system or a multi zone system. It's also the first of the Denon receivers to feature two HDMI outputs which is perfect for either running a TV and projector in the same room, or for running a stereo system with video in another room.

As with most of the Denon AV receivers it uses Audyssey MultEQ XT to get the very best out of your speakers by fine tuning them to your rooms dynamics. Sounds complex, but in essence you use the set up mic included when you first set this machine up to calibrate the system to your room. The results, along with the powerful amplification, result in a clean smooth sound that reveals a frighteningly large amount of detail on whatever soundtrack you choose.

Theres full video upscaling and conversion too, up to 4K if you intend to use an Ultra HD television now or in the future. It can also passthrough video (including 3D) when in standby, and has ARC for convenience - allowing you to send TV sound back down the HDMI.

The multi zone features are handy too - this writer for one doesn't use anything other than 5.1 so the ability to run a second zone complete with video picture is very very useful, especially as the system can easily be controlled without an IR signal by using the Denon control app on your phone.

The only detraction, and one that blights this years Denon range, is the continued absence of wireless internet connectivity. Of course, if it is easy enough to wire your router into your receiver this isn't a problem (and provides a better connection), but it becomes an inconvenience and a complete pain if a wired solution isn't an option. There are ways around it of course, but we hope this is a feature Denon include on next years models.
