Bowers & Wilkins 684 floor standing loudspeakers

"The 684's are the most popular floorstander in Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series. With two mid range speakers, a high quality tweeter

and a decent bass level generated by that large cabinet, they are popular for stereo systems for medium to large sized rooms."

Bowers & Wilkins have a long history of producing some of the finest speakers in the world. In recent years they have diverged into home theatre with great success, but they still produce some classic stereo speakers too. All their modern stereo speaker ranges have been designed to work within a home theatre system too, so whatever your need you should find a speaker to suit.

The B&W 684 is part of the 600 Series, Bowers & Wilkins entry level range of stereo speakers. This range comprises of a choice of different floorstanding and stand mount speakers as well as a centre and a choice of three different theatre systems that can be constructed from speakers within the series.

This particular speaker is one of two floorstanders - the larger 683's have dual dedicated bass units whereas this speaker has dual mid range drive units. Interestingly we actually prefer the overall sound on this speaker. The mid and treble are slightly clearer and - most importantly - the bass can always be supplemented by using a subwoofer, meaning you'll actually get a twin mid range system from this speaker.

They are still capable of filling a medium sized room with bass if used on their own. Larger rooms can vary depending on speaker positioning and the actual size of the room, but you'd still find the majority of rooms are filled without issue.

Overall we'd recommend these speakers, especially when partnered with Cyrus or Rotel amplification.
